Insurance & Billing

The physicians of Pediatric Ophthalmology Associates Inc are specialists trained in the medical and surgical care of the eye. Because initial exams are complete medical evaluations of the eye, it is our practice to bill your child’s examination to your medical insurance.

When preparing for your appointment, please remember to bring the following:

  • Your medical insurance card(s)
  • Copay or coinsurance
  • Referral from your child’s primary care physician if required by your insurance plan
  • A list of any current medications
  • Your child’s current glasses or contact lenses

Although we strongly recommend that parents accompany their children to all appointments, we understand that there are times when this is not possible. If your child is accompanied by an adult other than a parent or guardian, please provide us with written permission.

We participate in most major health plans including Anthem, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Aetna and Medical Mutual of Ohio as well as Medicaid, CareSource and Molina. If you have specific questions about participation, please contact your insurance company.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are your business hours?

Our billers are available Monday- Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. For your convenience there is an after hours voicemail line. If you leave us a message someone will be sure to return your call.

  • How do I pay my bill?

We have three convenient ways to pay your bill. On our website, under the 'Pay My Bill' tab, over the phone, or through the mail.

  • Why do I have a bill?

Like most medical providers, we submit our claims to your medical insurance, and depending on your plan, they pay us all or some of the cost. Each insurance plan is different, and coverage types vary. Please call us with questions about your bill, or reference your Explaination of Benefits (EOB) notice (you'll receive this in the mail from your insurance carrier).

  • Why doesn't my doctor bill my Vision Insurance?

Our doctors are Ophthalmologists (Medical Doctors who specialize in ocular health). This means we bill your medical insurance.

  • Do you accept my childs insurance?

We are contracted with many plans, both commerical and Medicaid. It's best if you check with your insurance company to confirm coverage.

  • How do I update my insurance information on file?

At this time, calling is the best option. We can not accept emailed or other digital versions of cards due to HIPAA regulations, and our current technical capabilities.
